Wege. Menschen.Perspektiven. Eine Ausstellung der JuKuWe

The Mediterranean region and southern Europe are criss-crossed by well-known and infamous paths, roads and sea routes, e.g. the Way of St. James, the Alpe Adria cycle path, the Dolomites road, the Strait of Gibraltar, the sea route that has been documented in literature since ancient times and on which Odysseus wandered through the Mediterranean. These, in turn, were created by people who pursued their own intentions, wishes and goals. It is not for nothing that it is said that travel broadens one’s personal horizons: the familiar, the ordinary and the foreign are experienced and reflected upon. This creates complex opportunities to experience or adopt different perspectives.

During the last JuKuWe Summer Art Camp “Kunstreich”, 45 young adults explored the southern European countries as part of the 2024 Cultural Summer “Stars of the South”. With “Paths-People-Perspectives” they incorporated their own experiences such as travel and cultural-historical aspects into the implementation. Works from the areas of “Painting”, led by Stefan Stichler (Frankfurt/Düsseldorf), “Architecture”, led by Magdalena Weiland (Leipzig), “Sculpture”, led by Ulrich Mekiska (Eifel) and “Textile Design”, led by Victor Schönrich (Darmstadt), will be presented.
