After the Second World War and the Shoah, only few artistic positions came to terms with what had happened, and in only few countries was a social reappraisal even initiated. In many cases, forgetting, repression or pure consumerism prevalled. In the years between the Cold War, the Vietnam War, the Cuban Missile Crisis and the economic miracle, the artists Boris Lurie and Wolf Vostell played a central role: the former in an attitude of absolute negation with his NO!Art, and the second with happenings and works , which also included the then new media. The publication traces this era in art from the post-war years up to the 1990s with eight contributions and was the basis for the scientific symposium of the same name.
