The vernissage begins at 5 p.m.
The Mediterranean region and Southern Europe are crisscrossed by well-known and infamous paths, roads, and sea routes, such as the Way of St. James, the Alpe Adria Cycle Route, the Dolomites Road, the Strait of Gibraltar, and the sea route, documented in ancient literature, along which Odysseus wandered through the Mediterranean. These, in turn, were created by people pursuing their own intentions, desires, and goals. It is not for nothing that travel broadens one’s horizons: the familiar, the ordinary, and the unfamiliar are experienced and reflected upon. This creates multifaceted opportunities to experience or adopt different perspectives.
During the last JuKuWe Summer Art Camp, “Kunstreich,” 45 young adults explored Southern European countries as part of the 2024 “Stars of the South” cultural summer program. Using “Paths, People, Perspectives,” they incorporated their own experiences, such as travel and cultural-historical aspects, into their work. Works will be presented in the fields of “Painting,” led by Stefan Stichler (Frankfurt/Düsseldorf), “Architecture,” led by Magdalena Weiland (Leipzig), “Sculpture,” led by Ulrich Mekiska (Eifel), and “Textile Design,” led by Victor Schönrich (Darmstadt).
