Guided Tour, Music & Horror Film Classics
Expect spooky snacks and sinister drinks to complete the experience!
As dusk falls over Koblenz, a journey into the dark side of art begins at the Ludwig Museum. Familiar spaces become strange, bodies disappear, and objects seem to take on a life of their own. On the Friday before Halloween, we invite you to a special evening where beauty and terror go hand in hand, revealing abysses between dream and reality.
At 6 pm, join us for a spine-chilling guided tour by (LED) candlelight with Suzana Leu-Puggioni, Research Associate, and Marlene Reiche, Curatorial Trainee. Selected works from the current exhibition Liliane Tomasko. Bridge, as well as from the Ludwig Collection, become the settings for an eerie night. We encounter empty beds and absent bodies, ruined architecture and grotesque figures, bones, skulls, and machines that seem to awaken like ghosts. Explore with us the omnipresence of death in art and that elusive sense of uncanniness that arises when something appears both familiar and strange.
At 7 pm, Jennifer Kalnicki invites you to an atmospheric séance, setting the stage for the evening’s climax with live vocal performances of arias from the horror musicals Dracula and Tanz der Vampire (Dance of the Vampires).
Then, at 7:30 pm, it’s time to turn out the lights for Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror. F. W. Murnau’s 1922 silent film classic is one of the great masterpieces of early horror cinema and casts the images we have just explored in an entirely different light.
Zombies, witches, vampires, and ghosts of all kinds are more than welcome – and will receive a complimentary drink of their choice!
