International Museum Day 2025
On May 18, 2025, museums across Germany will celebrate International Museum Day and offer their guests a diverse program under the motto “Discover Museums together”.
As part of the exhibition “Once upon a time. Manfred Boecker, Rainer Gross, and Wolfgang Niedecken,” a colorful and creative afternoon awaits you at the Ludwig Museum. Young and old alike will have the opportunity to work with color and form, delve into the art of black-and-white photography, participate in tours led by curators and directors, and enjoy everything from indie to rock music.
The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission and guided tours are free.
Program:
2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Welcome speech and guided tour of the exhibition with Prof. Dr. Beate Reifenscheid, Director of the Ludwig Museum. Location: ground floor and first floor
2:00 pm – 5:30 pm “Postcards and Friends”. Following the example of Manfred Boecker and Wolfgang Niedecken’s “Daily Pictures” and “New Souvenirs,” participants will create friendship postcards with collages and art quotes that can be individually mailed to friends. The course is led by Stefanie Schmeink, artist, and Jennifer Kalnicki, M.A., both members of the Ludwig Museum’s Art Contact Team. Location: first floor
2:30 pm to 6:00 pm Analog photography with Caffenol. Developing film negatives for black and white photographs. Starting with photographing works of art in a museum, participants will learn how to develop film negatives economically and sustainably using the Caffenol formula. This workshop offers an opportunity to rediscover the almost lost art of analog photography and explore its creative possibilities. The course consists of the “Basic Theory” part, which teaches basic knowledge of analogue photography and introduces historical cameras, and the second part on “Film Development”, in which the environmentally sustainable photo development process using the Caffenol formula is demonstrated. The course is led by Roberto Puggioni, PhD., and Alexander Samans, M.A. Location: Third floor
