International Museum Day 2026
On 17 May 2026, museums across the country will celebrate International Museum Day (IMT) and offer their visitors a varied programme under the theme ‘Discover Museums’.
As part of the two exhibitions “Marianne Aue. Unknown Zero” and “Markéta Othová, Michael Bielický and Kamila B. Richter – The world through lenses, in pixels and digital fluidity”, a colourful and varied afternoon awaits you at the Ludwig Museum. Visitors of all ages will have the opportunity to experiment with artistic materials themselves, try their hand at the art of monotype and relief printing, and take part in curator-led tours.

Programme
2.00–3.00 pm, ground floor: Welcome by Prof. Dr Beate Reifenscheid, Director of the Ludwig Museum, followed by a guided tour of the exhibition “Marianne Aue. Unknown Zero”.
2.00–3.30 pm, 3rd floor: Participatory art project “natureNETwork – a social sculpture” – participants draw plants using ink and a black fineliner on A4 paper or, working together, on larger sheets of paper. The motifs may be inspired by the visible surroundings of the respective environment. The workshop is led by Stefanie Schmeink and Franziska Schröder (KunstKontakt-Team).
3.00–4.00 pm, 1st floor: Turn on the lights! A torch-lit tour of the exhibition “Markéta Othová, Michael Bielický and Kamila B. Richter – The world through lenses, in pixels and digital fluidity” with Marlene Reiche, MA, research trainee.
2.30 pm – 5.30 pm, 3rd floor (outdoors if the weather permits): Workshops with the KunstKontakt-Team (Stefanie Schmeink, Franziska Schröder, Noah Waldecker and Jennifer Kalnicki)
“Monotype” workshop: With a delicate balance, Marianne Aue creates monotypes using a kind of stamp printing technique. We explore the interplay of light and dark and examine the distinctive qualities of her prints. As a practical exercise, participants will create their own compositions on paper.
“Relief” workshop: This session focuses on Marianne Aue’s three-dimensional reliefs, which feature repetitive structures. We will explore the systematic nature of these works and then create our own sculptural artworks by gluing together spatial constructions using simple materials.
4.30–5.30 pm, 2nd and 3rd floors: A tour highlighting the best of the Ludwig Collection with Suzana Leu-Puggioni, MA, research assistant.
4.00–5.00 pm, ground floor and first floor: Curator’s tour of the current exhibitions with Prof. Dr Beate Reifenscheid, Director of the Ludwig Museum.

The museum is open from 11 am to 6 pm. The programme begins at 2 pm and ends at 5.30 pm. We are reopening the ‘Café des Amis’ on the roof terrace, serving refreshments and cake. Admission, guided tours and participation in the workshops are free. Further information can be found at www.ludwigmuseum.org.
