“Deep Diving. Highlights from the Collection” presents selected artworks, artistic techniques, and themes through in-depth explorations of art, providing biographical, art-historical, and social-philosophical context.
Theme: “Liliane Tomasko and Willem de Kooning. Two ways of making inner worlds visible”
What connects contemporary gestural abstraction with a work by Willem de Kooning from 1970? This time, “Deep Diving” focuses on de Kooning’s painting Untitled (1970) from the Ludwig Museum collection. His wild brushstrokes seem like a visual outcry against the apparent order of modern society — free, radical, and deliberately unsettling. Liliane Tomasko continues this exploration in a different, more subtle way: her paintings work with layers and intense colour, examining the symbolism and visual world of dreams.
