Art auction at the Fête des Arts – friends meet friends.

To mark the 30th anniversary of the Verein der Freunde und Förderer des Mittelrhein-Museums und Ludwig Museums zu Koblenz e.V., an art auction will be held at the Ludwig Museum on 7 July 2024 at 3 pm. As part of this event, you will have the opportunity to purchase wonderful works by artists who are closely associated with the two museums. The proceeds will later be donated to both museums.
The auction is part of the summer festival “Fête des Arts – Friends meet friends”. In addition to the auction, various events will take place in and around the museum on this day. These include a performance by the Koblenz Youth Theatre, musical performances by the flute trio and the Trash Drummers from the Koblenz Music School and the duo Katharina Wimmer and Andreas Theobald. With guided tours by the scientific team and workshops for young and old by the Kunstkontakt team, visitors can immerse themselves in the exhibition “reflections.Positionen aus der National-Bank Sammlung”. All works can be seen on the 3rd floor of the Ludwig Museum.

*1947, Koblenz -† 2021
After training as a stonemason, Georg Ahrens studied sculpture at the Cologne Werkschule. His work is characterised by the theme of “angels”, which he repeatedly varied in both monumental and small sculptures. In addition to his sculptural work, Ahrens also produced ink works and woodcuts, influenced by teaching visits to China. Georg Ahrens worked in Cologne and Weibern, Eifel.

*1914, Aachen – † 2017, Wolfenacker, After 1945, he was one of the main representatives of abstract art and the Informel movement in Germany, which he was instrumental in developing. In the early 1950s, he developed his typical painting style, in which dark colour was applied to a light background in quick strokes with a brush, later also with a broom, and then removed again with a squeegee. This created dynamic flowing and undulating movements.

Lives as an artist in Heimbach. Since 1989 she has been working in cycles of works that deal with life and the human condition. These works are accompanied by diaries and installations. Her works are primarily translucent pictures and objects in which landscapes, faces or birds are barely recognisable. Her works appear timeless and spaceless, like dreamlike formations or fading memories.

Studied painting at the Düsseldorf Art Academy from 1959 to 1965 under K.O. Götz, whom she married in 1965. As early as the mid-1960s, she found her own style of figurative painting. She was a lecturer from 1969 to 1975 and was appointed professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy in 1975, where she became vice-rector in 2000. She has been a member of the Art Academy Advisory Board of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia since 2009.

* 1965, Wiesbaden, lives and works in Cologne and Prato, Italy. Löhr is known for her sculptures and installations consisting of organic elements. Her compositions often deal with delicate natural materials, often seeds and small pieces of fruit. In her drawings, she often continues this delicacy with a few characteristic lines. She uses oil pencil, ink and graphite as drawing materials.

*1949, began his career as a representative of Art Informel and is also an object and installation artist. He studied at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf and the Hochschule der Künste Berlin. Aloys Rump lives and works in Boppard. He is often described as a literary artist, as references to poetry are incorporated into his art.
The variety of materials is important in Rump’s work: wood, fabric, colour, the addition of slate powder or marble dust. These materials are layered and fixed. This creates a relief-like structure reminiscent of landscapes or planetary surfaces.

Studied at the ceramics college in Hörgrenzhausen and later at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz. The works are based on spatial architecture and are first designed on the drawing board and then fired in porcelain.
The starting form of Kyra Spieker’s work “Verbundenheit IV” is the square, which allows the individual cube modules to be put together as required and with an exact fit thanks to the wavy upper and lower edges.

*1939, Saarlouis
The best-known female photographer in Rhineland-Palatinate first completed an apprenticeship as a banker, then studied languages in London and Munich. After working in London, she trained as a photographer in Koblenz in 1962. Her delicate, poetic photographs of nature are characterised by an apparent, momentary impressiveness.
The works “Etudes” were created in 2016 and 2017 and are still lifes in digital photography with dried flora and fauna on Hahnemühle paper.
