“Deep Diving. Highlights from the Collection” presents selected artworks, techniques and themes through in-depth explorations of art, providing context through biographical, art-historical and socio-philosophical information.
Topic: “Ventsislav Zankov. Identity and Postmodernism”
The painting Untitled (2008) by Ventsislav Zankov was recently added to the Ludwig Museum’s collection. As a work by a Bulgarian artist, it also represents a particular rarity within the collection. Zankov’s monumental depictions of the human body reflect the search for a new identity in post-communist Bulgaria and point to the social and historical transformations of the period. The guided tour will also explore how monumentality in contemporary art can become a means of expressing social and historical reflection.
