On July 9, 2025, Peter Ludwig, the renowned Koblenz art collector and founder of the Ludwig Museum Koblenz, would have turned 100 years old. With his wife Irene (née Monheim), he built a renowned foundation of international renown and is the namesake of a total of thirteen museums and institutions that enrich the museum landscape both nationally and internationally. After Peter Ludwig was awarded the City of Koblenz’s Cultural Prize, the idea of establishing a Ludwig Museum in Koblenz was realized, and the museum opened in September 1992. Peter Ludwig contributed donations and permanent loans to the young collection, which has been expanded extensively over the years.
